İlk kadın pilot Bedriye Tahir GÖKMEN. Soyadı kanunu çıkmadan önce göklerle tanışan Bedriye Tahir GÖKMEN, namıdiğer Bedriye Bacı. Uçmaya karşı duyduğu büyük tutkuyla havacılığa giriş yaptı. 1932 yılında Vecihi HÜRKUŞ'un kurduğu ilk Türk sivil havacılık okulu olan Vecihi Sivil Tayyare Mektebi'ne kayıt yaptırdı. Gökmen, okuldaki 13 öğrenci arasında tek kadın olmasına aldırış bile etmedi çünkü onun için tek sevda uçmaktı. Büyük bir heyecan ve coşkuyla heyecanla havacılık derslerine hiç aksatmadan katıldı. 1933 yılında Türkiye'nin ilk kadın pilotu olarak uçuşlarını başarıyla gerçekleştirdi.
